The regional integration of France in the Pacific Ocean, a multimodal diplomacy – Christian Lechervy

“Adapting to a deeply changing Pacific area (island states courted by the emerging powers, reordered in new sub-groups), France adopts a modular diplomacy. The latter is built up through its role as a global power, the links established with the European Union, the peculiarities of its Pacific territories and its Asian strategy. In regional institutions, it is based on multiple legal statuses and a willingness to associate as of right New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna. It must have a regional architecture built around the Pacific Islands Forum and favoring island Sovereign States.”
