Why the Arms Trade Treaty Matters for the Pacific – Shmuli Levin
Pacific states are not isolated from violence: armed conflict took place in Salomon Islands and in Bougainville Island (Papua New Guinea). Arms trafficking represent a great stake for the region and the ATT could be a priority in this sense. More than a tool to reduce the illicit trade, ratifying the ATT could provide a diplomatic power and legitimacy to the Pacific states in this area.
